My favorite part of my day was… seeing all of the creativity and personality on display during our K-5 costume parade. A special thank you to our middle school ASB for helping our event run smoothly, and to our community judges who took time out of their day to join in the fun!

📚 Tomorrow is a staff professional development day - no school for students
Today, Mr. Hansen graciously invited me to witness a truly monumental day- the day that our fifth graders received their band instruments. The anticipation and excitement was truly heartwarming. Mr. Hansen shared that it is one of his favorite days of the year, and it’s easy to see why. I can’t wait to watch this next generation of musicians soar! 🎺🎷🥁

My favorite part of my day was… spending a class period with Mr. Dorzab’s middle school Speech and Debate class as they worked in pairs to craft and present stances on topics such as “Who is the funniest actor?”. Each student was actively engaged in bolstering their opinion, often using their debate skills to convince their partner what claim to present to the class! These students are learning the art of being able to defend an opinion with reason and evidence intelligently and respectfully- a powerful life skill. I appreciate their enthusiasm, engagement, and courage to speak confidently in front of their peers!

My favorite part of my day was…
watching our K-5 students (and some middle and high school scientists too!) enthusiastically participate in our OMSI science presentation. We practiced making hypotheses, learned about how temperature affects the behavior of liquids and gases, and even experimented with static electricity! The OMSI team will be onsite for the next few days to lead classes in hands-on labs to deepen their science learning. We are so fortunate to have dedicated educators who work to organize these experiences and generous community organizations that provide grants to bring these enriching opportunities to Sherman County. 🐾

The favorite part of my day was…
Dropping in on our middle school ASB leadership meeting during TAT this morning as they were planning to make a pitch to the high school ASB students to request funding for their upcoming event…& getting word from Mr. Swenson that our advanced soils team qualified for nationals! It can be easy to take the success of our programs for granted…& yet if & when you remember to take a step back & see our community for what it is, it’s an excellent reminder that behind every successful team or project or program are incredibly dedicated individuals who sacrifice their time & dedicate their expertise & skills in order to help our students have outstanding learning experiences. It is not a coincidence that Sherman County School has had 3 regional teachers of the year in the past 5 years alone. Our students do not have average teachers & staff, & our successful programs are evidence of this. Our staff know that good is the enemy of the great & they are continuously striving for greatness. What a great example for our young people.
