The favorite part of my day was… Wrapping up preparations for our family night tomorrow night. We are so excited to offer a light dinner to our families before we have focus groups for parents/guardians & STEM stations for students. We want & need your feedback & input! Join Us for K-12 Family Night! 🎉We invite all families to come together on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m. for a fun and engaging K-12 Family Night. 🏫✨ A light dinner will be served 🍽️, and there will be exciting STEM activities for students of all ages to enjoy 🔬🚀. While the kids are busy exploring, parents will have the chance to participate in important focus groups that will help guide our district’s direction and priorities. 💬📝 We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your valuable input! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

The Sherman County School District Board of Directors will hold a Regular Board Meeting on Monday, October 14, 2024 in the Sherman County Public/School Library Program Room. An executive session in accordance with ORS 192.660(2)(f) will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at approximately 6:30 p.m. Please find the agenda under the school board section of the website.

The favorite part of my day was… Playing catch with a football during lunch with some junior high boys…seeing impact in action in the Wellness Room as Mr. B helped out a younger student…being a part of a meeting with a team of staff who was so clearly knowledgeable & invested in the success of the student of discussion…& seeing Mrs. Wambold be the real MVP of the day so Mark & Evan could do a fundraiser for their class by working in the concessions! The favorite part of my day was… Hearing staff at our staff meeting giving shout outs to individual students, acknowledging individual growth, progress, & excellence…& having our 1st steering committee meeting with our staff leadership team & representation from parents, community members & students. The favorite part of my day was… Getting pumpkin 🎃 globe 🌎 pictures from Mrs. Wambold’s 4th grade class…& hearing Mr. Stuart’s excitement in the message he sent…”I’m really excited! 👏 We had 16 kids in the upper grades chess ♟️ practice today and 15 at the SKORE chess practice on Tuesday. That’s over 30 kids in chess this week! That’s a school record! 😊👍🏻” To hear the pride in our staff’s voices as they share growth in our programs & students is continued evidence of the culture we are building at Sherman. The favorite part of my day was… This morning’s sunrise…a daily reminder that every day is a fresh start full of opportunities…we don’t give up on each other as we focus on improving, 1% each day, keeping in mind how small improvements add up to big gains in the long run…& Seeing Mrs. Bagwell join carpet time in first grade this morning. The favorite part of my day was… Seeing a younger brother help his older sister with her bag at the end of the day, without being asked, carrying it & covering it with his coat so her belongings didn’t get wet in the rain. What a great example of selflessness & a reminder that small gestures really make a difference & are what can make a group of people or a community feel & operate like a family. The favorite part of my day was… Seeing all the students dressed up for Hawaiian day…Miss McLean showing off her 3rd grade class & their writing…& Mrs. Bagwell stepping in to teach math for Ms. Farrens’ 3rd grade class so she could observe another class. The favorite part of my day was… Getting into classrooms this morning & seeing more great learning environments along with 1st grade STEM buckets & 5th grade science experiments…getting a very official sharp-looking invite to chaperone the Homecoming dance…& an email at the end of the day from a teacher who wanted to share some especially standout students in the upper grades. The favorite part of my day was… Getting a message from a teacher inviting me in to see how great students were doing…it says a lot that we have teachers who want to show off our students’ work, what they’re producing, & the good things that are happening in our classrooms. Also great is our new flexible seating options in all grades, K-12 & some of the new lighting that teachers are using to create classroom environments that are more appealing to students. We spend the majority of our waking hours each day in the school building. Why wouldn’t we want to make the environment as inviting as possible while still maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all? Superintendent Fall #EveryKidEveryDay100WhateverItTakes

The favorite part of my day was… Sitting in on one of the 1st MTSS meetings with our 3rd grade team. Some of the shifts we are making with our approach to reading interventions for our youngest students is going to be so exciting to watch as we monitor students’ growth & progress in their reading skills.
